23 Things That Happened in 2023

2023 was a captivating year for everyone here at Wee Wild Ones! From incredible moments celebrating our team to different activities throughout the year, we cannot wait to see the new projects, lifelong friendships and adventures ahead! Read on to see the 23 amazing things that happened in 2023! 

  1. Throughout the year, we hosted ten internal Community of Practice/Training sessions, engaging all Team Members in a virtual setting.

  2. In November, we celebrated the third-year anniversary of our centre-wide cloth diapering program known as Nature Calls.

  3. Five Team Members obtained  their Early Childhood Educator Level 2 and  six obtained their Level 3 certification.

  4. During Spring, we orchestrated an interactive Reggio-Inspired area at Market Collective, fostering engagement, free play and creativity.

  5. Our internal Wee Wild Ones Library saw continued success and usage among our team members daily! 

  6. We organized and successfully hosted internal activities including, Wild Sweater Day and Costume Day, to boost morale. Six winners were awarded special prizes! 

  7. We reflected and updated our values to "Own it, Be Brave and Do it with Love."

  8. We were acknowledged by the Children's Cottage Society, we proudly received the AFP Calgary Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business Award.

  9. Throughout the year, our Book of the Month initiative encouraged conversations, home reading and exploration of different authors and themes.

  10. We refreshed our logo and branding, promoting legibility, inclusivity and more! 

  11. Across all our centres, we spotlighted 36 Team Members on our Instagram, Facebook and in our monthly Newsletters!

  12. The capacity of our Currie location was expanded, welcoming a new team of smiling faces and little ones!

  13. Began construction on WWO 3 upcoming locations. 

  14. We supported the Angelman Society Annual fundraiser, contributing to their achievement of raising $69,255.00.

  15. We extended our support to the Calgary Foundation LIT Gala.

  16. Collaborating with artist Katie Green, we worked on another mural at one of our upcoming locations.

  17. Through our participation in the annual Children’s Cottage Society’s Stock the Cottage Drive, we donated items filling 1.5 cars.

  18. We received a Certificate of Appreciation for our commitment to inclusivity in the workplace, particularly for individuals with disabilities.

  19. We enhanced our employee incentives, introducing Health Spending Accounts, increased benefits, increased paid time off, and various types of bonuses for our team.

  20. We hosted MRU Psychology Students multiple times throughout the year, aiding their research and supporting mental health initiatives for our team.

  21. Our successful Good to Great Kick-Off recognized and awarded 23 outstanding team members, celebrating their value and dedication.

  22. We celebrated the work anniversaries of 67 Team Members, ranging from 1 year to 7 years of employment. 

  23. Initiated the integration of digital training into our Training Program, catering to diverse learning styles and fostering inclusivity.

We are grateful for our Community and Team that made this year special! These milestones could not have been met without them! We wish everyone a wonderful new year filled with love, laughter and growth!
