Show your Creative Side

Happy New Year! As we begin this new journey into 2023, we recognize the importance of inspiring creativity in our daily lives for our children and ourselves. January is International Creativity Month, created by Randal Munson to encourage everyone to explore their creative side. This month-long event encourages everyone to take a break from their daily lives and explore new ways of problem-solving!

How does this relate to Wee Wild Ones?

Wee Wild Ones is an inquiry-based learning process that puts creativity and exploration at the forefront of learning. This approach focuses on the student’s role in the learning process, which we believe to be essential. Children’s questions and comments are always appreciated and often fuel the beginning of each new adventure in learning.

Inquiry-based learning spurs higher-level thinking that stimulates creativity and research skills. At Wee Wild Ones, we love seeing our little ones come up with great ideas while collaborating with classmates. Our curriculum emerges organically, based on children’s questions and interests. Our programs are developed as educators actively listen to and observe children in play. Ultimately, our little ones become more curious as they learn about the world they live in.

Below are three ways to celebrate International Creativity Month:

  1. Take time to relax; Let your mind wander from your busy schedule and show yourself some self-care. Grab a book off your “To Be Read” shelf, a cup of tea, and devour a new author. Find a love of reading, and spark a year-long challenge to read one new book a month.

  2. Go outside; breathe in the fresh mountain air, play with your little ones or take a solo adventure through one of Alberta’s national parks. Along the way, find a spot to sit down and reflex on your day. Perhaps you bring a journal or comforting book or tell your children a new story. Relish in the beauty around you, and let your creativity run wild!

  3. Try something new; step out of your comfort zone and try something you never have before!

We encourage our families, friends and little ones to explore creative solutions. Try a new hobby, rekindle a love of art and take a moment to reflect on yourself and how you can incorporate a creative outlet into your daily schedule. It’s a new year! Time to create new goals, work towards elevating yourself and challenge the world around you.
